We are again in El Calafate after spending a few days near El Chaltn. Fitz Roy mountain is in El Chaltn and there are lots of cool hikes around the area. We spent the first night in a free campground near the glacier and the next morning we met a group to go walk on the glacier and try ice climbing. It was a lot of fun and beautiful walking on the glacier. Ice climbing is hard though, much harder than rock climbing, but maybe it`s because our crampons (spiky things that you strap to your shoes so as not to slip on the ice) were pretty dull. After our glacier walk we hiked to another campground. Then the next day we hiked up to the viewpoint of Fitz Roy and then back down to El Chaltn. That was yesterday and we spent last night in El Chaltn before taking the bus back to El Calafate this evening. In a few hours we will be getting on a bus to Ushuaia which is part of Tierra del Fuego. We will spend a couple of days there and then we begin our journey back to the north. No time for photos… soon, hopefully. Oh, and who knows who Fitz Roy was?
