Allinge-Sandvig

Allinge-Sandvig is a city on Bornholm. These two amalgamated towns on the northern coast of the island are romantic and pretty and have hundreds of old fashioned half-timbered houses.

Allinge is especially lovely and famous for its Smokehouse and its annual Jazz Festival. For a week during summers, Allinge is home to 'Folkemoede' with hotels, hostels and private accommodation reserved up to a year in advance. Sandvig is the closest town to popular tourist destination Hammershus Castle.

Get around

Finding your way around the top, north coast of Bornholm can be a bit daunting if arriving by bus or self-drive for newcomers since it is basically 4 towns grown together over time. From north-west to south-east they are: Sandvig-Allinge-Sandkaas-Tejn.

  • 🌍 Hammershus. Hammershus was Scandinavia's largest medieval fortification and is one of the largest in Northern Europe. The fortification was erected in the 13th century and consists of the base castle residence and features a grand tower called the "mantel" tower. Hammershus Fortress features a 750-metre-long (2,460 ft) perimeter wall around the castle grounds. Visitors to Hammershus have views of the coastline and the sea surrounding Bornholm.

  • Allinge Røgeri, Sverigesvej 5, Allinge. 10:00-02:00 in the summer. Old smokehouse beautifully located at the ocean. It is a seafood restaurant and bar. Smoked herrings at 30 kr, all you can eat buffet 87 kr.

  • Ellas Konditori, Strandgade 42, +45 5648 0329. Danish food served in old building or garden.
