Altai

The Altai mountains are a mountain range in the area where Russia, China, Kazakhstan and Mongolia converge. They are the namesake of the controversial Altaic languages family, which includes Japanese, Korean, Manchu, Mongolian and the Turkic languages, though this grouping is disputed by many linguists.

They are the namesake of more than one place called Altai or Altay:

China

  • Aletai (also known as Altay) - a city in the autonomous Xinjiang region

Kazakhstan

Mongolia

Russia
