Biatorbágy

Biatorbágy (German: Wiehall-Kleinturwall) is a town in Pest County. The inner area of the town is in the Zsámbék Basin, it is surrounded by the Buda Hills, its eastern part extends into the Budaörs Basin.

Biatorbágy was formed by the union of the villages of Torbágy in the north and Bia in the south in 1966. The villages were first mentioned in 1192 as Biua and Torbágyerdő. Biatorbágy was elevated to town status in 2007.

By train

Trains  S10  and  S12  are available hourly from Budapest-Déli pályaudvar to Győr via Bicske, Tatabánya, Tata and Komárom. The journey from Budapest takes 21 minutes and costs 465 Ft.

From Budapest to Biatorbágy: regional buses from Kelenföld vasútállomás  M4  are available hourly. The journey takes 32 minutes and costs 370 Ft.

  • 🌍 Biatorbágy Railway Viaduct (Biatorbágyi vasúti viadukt). Technological monument, it is a great spectacle. The first bridge was built in 1883–1984, second one was in 1898. The newly built bridges defining elements of townscape, over the years, have become symbols of the town. The bridge over Fuzes creek valley 120–140 m (390–460 ft) wide and 20–25 m (66–82 ft) in height.
  • 🌍 Bechtold Swabian Heritage Museum (Bechtold Sváb Tájház, Bechtold Heimatmuseum), Fő utca 92, +36 23 787-391, . Apr–Oct: Tu 08:00–12:00, Th Sa 14:00–18:00. The exhibition shows the most pieces of the Ethnographic Collection as well as old family photos on the walls.
  • 🌍 Sándor-Metternich Mansion (Sándor-Metternich-kastély), Szentháromság tér 4. A Classicist monument, first a Baroque chateau built on the site. The new owner Baron Antal Sándor's son, Count Vince Sándor had built up the mansion in its present form in 1823. His son, Móric Sándor marriage led to the Metternich family took possession of the mansion. Presumably, the mansion is an early work of, – the most famous architect of Hungary of – József Hild. Today it is a school.
  • 🌍 Szily Mansion (Szily-kastély), Kálvin tér 4. It was built in the first half of the 18th century. Located on sloping terrain. A south-facing, U-shaped, Baroque building is designed a nice yard.
  • 🌍 Holy Name of Mary Roman Catholic Church (Szűz Mária neve római katolikus templom), Dózsa György út 8, +36 23 311-411, . Built in Baroque style in the 18th century.
  • 🌍 Saint Anne Roman Catholic Church (Szent Anna római katolikus templom), Szentháromság tér 3, +36 30 351-6227, . Built in 1823 in Classicist stlye.
  • 🌍 Reformed Church (Református templom), Nagy utca 28, +36 23 310-310, . First mentioned in 1600. The Lord's Table made from white marble is more than hundred years old, the parish house is 110 years old and the building of the congregation is more than 130 years old.
  • 🌍 Ruins of Holy Cross Chapel (Szent Kereszt-kápolna romjai). The oldest architectural monument of the village was built at the end of the 13th century in late-Romanesque style. It was rebuilt many times. Located in the reformed cemetery.
  • 🌍 Nyakas-kő. Nice view to the surrounding area.
  • 🌍 Bolha Hill (Bolha-hegy). Nature conservation area, it has a rock steppe with special steppe flora.
