Borsec

Borsec (Hungarian Borszék) is a resort in Szeklerland. The town and the surrounding areas are well known for their spas and mineral waters.

Understand

Located in eastern Transylvania, Borsec has a good location in the Carpathians mountains.

In 2021, it was home to 2,400 people., most of whom speak Hungarian.

Borsec owes its fame to its mineral waters, known for their curing properties. Natural cures (the healing properties of the microclimate, surrounding air, soil and water) and physiotherapeutic properties are reputedly able to improve nutrition and heal a host of metabolic disorders.

Get in

There are frequent buses from nearby Topliţa (a 30 minutes trip), which has rail connections with the rest of the country (it's located on the Braşov-Miercurea Ciuc-Dej railway).

Get around

The resort is walkable.

Borsec offers many excursions, including Poiana Zânelor, the ice cave, the bears' cave, Izvorul Străvechi, and Cetatea Bufnițelor.

  • Borsec wooden church (Schimbarea la Față). Built as a Roman Catholic church in 1847, it was converted to a Greek Catholic one, and later to Orthodox.

Those who like winter sports could do so on Făget and Făgețel

Those who like to fish who can try their luck in the waters of Bistricioara or the Bicaz Lake, which are near the resort.
