Cala en Bosch

Cala en Bosch is on the southwest coast of Menorca. It is a picturesque coastal village offering brilliant sea views, including of neighbouring Majorca. It largely consists of holiday homes and hotels and is a good place for a quiet, more relaxed holiday.

Understand

Cala en Bosch, also Cala'n Bosch or Cala en Bosc, is a beach, marina, hotel, and apartment resort about 9 km (5.6 mi) south of Ciutadella de Menorca. It is bordered by Son Xoriguer to the east and Cap d'Artrutx, the southwestern point of the island to the west which contains the Lighthouse of Artrutx. There are scuba diving facilities in the area. Cala en Bosch is edged by a shoreline of jagged rocks, several coves, and an inlet to a marina in an artificial lake.

Tourism, especially by the British, took off at Cala en Bosch in the 1980s with a dramatic growth of timeshare and self-catering apartments in the area. The town consists almost entirely of apartments and hotels; the main centre of activity is in the main town of Ciutadella to the north.

Get in

Menorca's international airport is at Maó: from there, Cala en Bosch is accessible by bus or car. The drive takes about an hour, as it is all the way at the other end of the island.

Get around

Cala en Bosch is small enough that it can comfortably be explored on foot.

See

There is a nice beach, but it is small and as a result frequently crowded. There are views of the other Balearic Islands across the Mediterranean, and there is a significant amount of green vegetation right down to the coast. There is also a local lighthouse with its own cafe.

Do

On a calm day, you can visit Majorca by boat for a day trip. The boat trips are cancelled on windier days.

Eat

Most of the local food is of a good quality, but on the expensive side.

Drink

Restaurants and a pub in the area serve alcohol: however, the village is not an appropriate environment for heavy drinking and there are no nightclubs.
