Cardenás

Cardenás is a city of 80,000 people (2020) in Tabasco. Cárdenas is a progressive city, a vital center for the oil, sugar, rice and chocolate industries; as well as an important communications hub inside and outside the state, as it is crossed by federal highway 180, which connects the Southeast region with the center of the country.

Cardenás is a small city 50 km (30 mi) from Villahermosa.

As very few people in Cardenás speak English; Spanish is an absolute necessity.

Climate

The climate, as in most of the state, is hot-humid. The temperature can reach 45º C some days, and, in general, averages 25 °C with little variation during the year, except during winter, when there are significant drops.

Get in

By bus

Cardenás is readily reached by first- and second-class buses from Villahermosa and other cities in Mexico. First-class ADO buses from Villahermosa depart nearly three times an hour at their peak, and no less than every hour at other times of the day.

By car

Cardenás is accessible on Federal Highway 180, which links it to Villahermosa to the west and Coatzcoalcos to the east; and Federal Highway 187, which runs to Comalcalco and Paraiso to the north and Chiapas to the south.
