Channing

Channing is in northern Dickinson County in Upper Peninsula, Michigan.

Understand

Channing began as a railroad junction called Fort Siding. Although the railroad is still active there is no longer passenger service.

In 1892, a post office was established named Channing, after John Parke Channing, a mining engineer who surveyed the area. The post office continues to serve ZIP code 49815.

By car

There are three main road routes into Channing.

  • The greater Channing area is served by the M-95 from the north and south. Channing is about 24 miles (39 km) north of Iron Mountain on M-95.
  • From Ralph, the main route in is Turner Road.

By snowmobile

Channing is north of trail 16 and west of trail 5.

The most popular nightclub/bars in downtown Channing are Cuculi's and the Channing Restaurant.

  • Cuculi's (on M-95, within the 500 block of Railroad Avenue.). A charming English pub with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Free darts, cheap popcorn, the pool table and the awesome bartenders make it a local favorite. Like most upscale establishments in northern Dickinson County, Cucili's offers the best in Michigan Lottery Club Games. Expect fine beer and spirits coupled with a comprehensive menu of Dina Mia quality Italian foods.
