Devprayag

Devprayag is a picturesque town in the lower Himalayas in Garhwal, Uttarakhand.

Understand

It is famous as the place where the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda rivers meet and take the name Ganga.

Around two hours from Rishikesh, Devprayag can be visited as a day trip, or used as a stopping off point to somewhere higher up in the Himalayan hills.

Get in

Buses and share jeeps (bound for Karnprayag or Srinagar) take about two hours to reach Devprayag from Rishikesh.

Do

The town can be walked in 2-3 hours, taking in the view from the three different sides of the two rivers, crossing the numerous suspension bridges, and walking through some of the narrow lanes.

Eat

  • Mohit's Momo (Near the suspension bridge on the north side of the Alakanda river). Serves fresh momo and chowmein.

Sleep

The only accommodation in the town itself is an upscale resort. There are a couple of guesthouses on the main road as you enter from Rishikesh, and a couple more overlooking the town on the road to Kedarnath.

Go next

Buses continue towards Srinagar, Karnprayag, and Kedarnath.
