Eastend

Eastend is a town of 500 people (2016) in Southwest Saskatchewan, known for its T-rex discovery centre.

Get in

The drive to Eastend is about 385 km (239 mi) via the Trans-Canada Highway up to Gull Lake, and then using Highways 37 and 13.

See

  • 🌍 T.rex Discovery Centre, 1 T-Rex Dr, +1 306-295-4009. A palaeontological museum which contains a cretaceous gallery, a cenozoic gallery and a fossil research station but is mostly known for "Scotty the T. rex", who was described to be the largest and oldest T. rex in the world, with an estimated weight of 8870 kilograms, a length of 13 metres and an age of over 30 years.
  • 🌍 Eastend Historical Museum, on the corner of Redcoat Trail and Elm Avenue, +1 306 295-3375. May 15 - Oct 10: daily 10:30AM-5PM; by appointment at other times (phone +1 306 295-3670 or +1 306 295-3564). Tourist information centre and collection of the many settlers, homesteaders and residents since the beginning of the community in 1914 in a series of historical buildings.

Do

  • 🌍 Jones Peak is 10 km south-west of Eastend. It was named after H.S. "Corky" Jones for his tireless work as an amateur palaeontologist and in preserving the history of Eastend.
  • Streambank Golf Course, +1 306 295 3792. May 1–Oct 15: 9AM-twilight. A 9-hole golf course with a fully-licensed clubhouse and deck. 18 holes $30; 9 holes $20.

On site washrooms, shower facilities, and sewage disposal available, along with barbecues, picnic tables, and sheltered cook area. Located next to a playground, ball diamonds, swimming pool and the Streambank Golf Course.
