El Sauzal

El Sauzal is a town with 9,000 inhabitants (2013) on the northwestern coast of Tenerife.

Understand

The layout of the Autopista del Norte divides El Sauzal into two parts:

  • Ravelo, between the highway and the central summit of the island; and
  • El Casco, between the highway and the sea.

Get in

The municipality is accessed mainly by the Autopista del Norte TF-5 .

Regular bus transportation services —guagua— are covered by the company Transportes Interurbanos de Tenerife, SAU TITSA, through the following lines:

  • Línea 011 – La Laguna - El Sauzal (by C / El Calvario de Tacoronte )
  • Línea 012 – La Laguna - El Sauzal (through downtown Tacoronte)
  • Línea 054 – La Laguna - Ravelo (by Agua García )
  • Línea 062 – La Laguna - La Orotava (through the Acentejo Region )
  • Línea 101 – Santa Cruz - Puerto de la Cruz (by General Highway)
  • Línea 102 – Santa Cruz - North Airport - Puerto de la Cruz (express)
  • Línea 107 – Santa Cruz - Buenavista (by North Airport)
  • Línea 108 – Santa Cruz - Icod de los Vinos (by North Airport)

Get around

El Sauzal has several taxi ranks, both in the old town and in Ravelo.

The streets of the urban area are an example of traditional Canarian architecture.

  • The church of San Pedro Apóstol, a Site of Cultural Interest from the 16th century.
  • The hermitage of Los Ángeles, also from the 16th century.

Winery in the rolling countryside of La Hollera, overlooking El Sauzal and producing wines since 1750. Oak barrels and modern maceration systems coexist in the winery, creating a special character and flavour of the Monje red, white, and rosé wines, which makes them popular in Canarian cuisine. Wine tasting is part of a visit.
