Fukuroi is located on the JR Tokaido Line between Shizuoka and Hamamatsu.

The nearest Tokaido Shinkansen stations to Fukuroi are at Kakegawa and Hamamatsu. If coming from the east (i.e. Tokyo), take a Shinkansen Kodama train to Kakegawa and change to the JR Tokaido Line (2 hours from Tokyo, ¥7650). From the west (i.e. Nagoya, Kyoto, Osaka), take a Shinkansen Hikari or Kodama to Hamamatsu and change there to the JR Tokaido Line. (90 minutes from Kyoto via Hikari, 2 hours via Kodama, ¥8380).

There is no charge to use these trains with the Japan Rail Pass.

  • 🌍 Hatta-san Son'ei-ji Temple (法多山尊永寺), Toyosawa 2777 (take the Entetsu bus from JR Fukuroi station and get off at the Hatta-san stop), +81 53 843-3601. Established in 725 by Emperor Shomu, this is one of the most important temples in the Enshu area. It is a famous place to pray for good luck, and special rice treats sold here, known as dango, are supposed to ward off bad luck. With 700 cherry trees, this is also a special place for hanami in the spring. Free.

  • Fukuroi Enshu Fireworks Display (袋井遠州の花火, Fukuroi Enshuu no Hanabi) (follow the crowd east from the station). Second Saturday of August. Thousands of people come from around the prefecture and beyond for one of the largest fireworks displays in all of Japan. Dozens of food stalls available. Bring a blanket and a handfan and get there early to find a decent place. Free.
