Lakes Region (Rio de Janeiro)

The Lakes Region (pt:Região dos Lagos) is a region of the state of Rio de Janeiro, in the Southeast of Brazil. It is bordered by Grande Rio to the west and the Serrana and Northern region of the state to the north.

  • Reserva Biológica de Poço das Antas/Rebio de Poço das Antas (Poço das Antas Biological Reserve) — This reserve is in the district of Aldeia Velha (also known as Quartéis), in the east of the municipality of Silva Jardim. It is about 120 km from Rio de Janeiro, being crossed by the BR-101 highway, which connects Silva Jardim to the state capital. The Poço das Antas Biological Reserve concentrates the largest population of golden lion tamarins (Leontopithecus rosalia), with over 560 individuals.
