Lluc

As a place of pilgrimage, Santuari de Lluc is one of the main attractions in the Serra de Tramuntana on Mallorca.

Understand

The heart of the old place of pilgrimage is the church, surrounded by a big hotel complex. Beside that, there are some restaurants, bars and souvenir shops. The residential school for choirboys is not accessible for the public.

Located at about 700 m above sea level, Lluc is a very central starting point for many hikes in the Serra de Tramuntana.

The sanctuary was founded in the 13th century after a Moorish shepherd found a statue of the Virgin Mary on the site where the monastery was later erected.

Sleep

  • The free campground at the beginning of the dead end road that leads to the place of pilgrimage is probably the biggest one in the whole Serra. It is well maintained and offers toilets, cold showers and barbecue facilities. The rangers bring fire wood regularly.
  • The Campside of Lluc is the main camping facility in the Serra. It offers basics like toilets and cold showers and has a lot of fireplaces usable for barbecue. If you are lucky, you will find some wood prepared for burning. An axe is helpful. Like all Mallorcian campsites, it's for free.
  • Between km 16 and 18 on the road from Pollença to Lluc, there are some more recreation areas where camping is allowed.
  • The Hotel has nice old rooms in a noble atmosphere for about €30 for a double room. Single rooms have almost the same price.

Go next

You can do many walks from Lluc. Here are some of them:

  • Puig Tomir (1103 m, 3 hr)
  • Puig Massanella (1367 m, 4 hr)
  • Torente de Pareis, a steep canyon that you can descend down to the sea.
