Get in
By plane to the airport at El Vigia (VIG IATA), or direct to Merida city. The latter involves some impressive landing, the airport being tucked into the valley between steep mountains.
By bus from most main cities in Venezuela.
By car following some spectacular windy roads through the foothills of the Andes.
Stay safe
Merida is relatively safe compared to other places in Venezuela. The people are welcoming of tourists, there are a lot of Posadas with friendly helpful staff, lots of restaurants and of course the tallest cable car in the world.
