Menindee

Menindee is a minor town (population 537 in 2021) in the Far West region of New South Wales.

Menindee is in the Central Darling Shire Local Government Area, whose main centre is Wilcannia.

By car

Menindee is around 1.25 hrs away from Broken Hill via Menindee Road. Note that Broken Hill observes ACST and ACDT while Menindee like the rest of New South Wales follows AEST and AEDT. You may have an extra half an hour to spare or you might lose half an hour, depending on which direction you're going.

By train

🌍 Menindee Train Station. is served by the Western NSW 446 Central train service from Broken Hill and takes about 1 hour and 9 minutes. It is also served by the Western NSW 445 Broken Hill train service from Central and takes about 12 hours and 4 minutes.

Get around

By car

Car is a quick way to go around the town but the time spent isn't worth the time to turn on, and turn off the car quickly. You'd be better off walking unless you are going out of town.

By walking

Walking is also a great option and the quickest point from end to end is 3 km long. If you choose to walk in the summer months, it can get up to 60˚C. Drink sufficient water and always carry water with you.

  • 🌍 Kinchega National Park. A national park home to several old historic farming stations along with some lakes – quite an unusual sight for much of the Outback. The end up flowing a 200 kilometres or so along the Darling River.
