Regional trains between Tampere and Keuruu stop at Orivesi keskusta station near the centre, intercity trains between Tampere and Jyväskylä stop at 🌍 Orivesi railway station which is about 4 km from the centre. Nyssykkä connection minibuses between Orivesi railway station and Orivesi centre operated by Tampere local transport authority are available.

Nysse lines 95 (Tampere–Orivesi) and 47 (Kangasala–Orivesi). Tampere route planner can be used to find connections to Orivesi. Matkahuolto route planner finds some long distance bus connections to Orivesi which are not included in Tampere regional route planner, especially at weekends the services to Orivesi are mostly long-distance lines.

Long-distance buses are available from Tampere, Turku, Jyväskylä and Kokkola.

  • 🌍 Pukala Recreational Forest, Valkealahdentie 322. Good opportunities for hiking and berry picking and mushroom picking. The rocky islands, straits and bay coves of the northern part of Lake Pukalajärvi offer a sheltered environment, e.g., kayaking and fishing.
  • 🌍 Eräpyhä recreation area, Nunnankirkontie 214 (NOPA 2, stop "Eräpyhä"). Attractions include an ancient sacrificial site called the Church of the Nuns and an old earthen pit. The water is ideal for canoeing.
    • 🌍 Nunnankallio (in the Eräpyhä area). An islet located on a lake, on top of which stands a mysterious white structure that mistakenly resembles the "Star of David". To this day, no reliable information about the builders has been preserved.
  • 🌍 Lakkasuo recreation area, Virtaintie 627 (bus stop "Vuorijärvi"). A naturally diverse fenland bog. The area includes a longitudinal woodland trail of about three kilometres in length.
