Climate

The average temperature is 8°C. The warmest month is July with 15°C and the coldest is January with 0°C. The summers are wet with most rain falling between June and August during the monsoon season.

Do

  • Black-neck crane Festival. An annual festival is held in November to celebrate the return of the birds from their summer nesting grounds in Tibet. There is a US$50 attendance fee, which is used to fund local community projects. (Warning: due the black-neck crane's endangered species status and also because of the special position it holds in Bhutanese folk law, deliberately injuring a bird is a crime punishable by life imprisonment.)
  • Phobjikha Valley trek is popular and takes three days to complete
