Río Grande

Río Grande is a city in the Eastern Coast region of Puerto Rico founded in July 25, 1840 by Deriderio Brothers and Quilimaco Escobar.

Río Grande is at the foot of El Yunque, a huge rain forest which is managed by the U.S. Forest Service.

  • 🌍 Río Grande Pueblo (downtown Río Grande). See the historic Roman Catholic church, Spanish-style recreational plaza, and the municipal buildings surrounded by streets and shops.
    You can drive around the pueblo or park your car and walk around the square and into the plaza. The Spanish law, which regulated life in Puerto Rico in the early 19th century, stated the plaza's purpose was for celebrations and festivities.
  • 🌍 El Yunque National Forest. Rainforest great for hiking, bird watching, and swimming in waterfalls.
