Understand

South Australia's Murray Riverland is one of the most relaxing holidays you can take and the Riverland is the stretch of the Murray River that winds its way from the South Australia-Victoria-NSW meeting point and winds its way westward until it reaches the town of Morgan, where it turns south, toward the Southern Ocean.

The River Murray is at the heart and soul of this South Australian community and the Riverland has become the food bowl of South Australia, producing an amazing array of fresh fruit and vegetables and much of the wine that South Australia is so famous for.

Get in

The Murray Riverland is a special agricultural quarantine zone to prevent the spread of fruit flies. Many common fruit and vegetables cannot be brought in, even from elsewhere in South Australia.

The easiest way to get in the region is via car through the M1 South Eastern Freeway from Adelaide, and should take about 1.5 hours to do.

See

Recreational opportunities are abundant in the region. There are many sport facilities, reserves, parks, and trails for walking, cycling and horse riding. Many are connected to the River Murray. A major government program has funded a Murray Coorong Trail initiative, which will eventually connect a range of loop trails and experiences beside or near the river for 250 km (160 miles) from Cadell in the Riverland to Salt Creek in the Coorong National Park; as of 2021 a 5-km (3-mile) walking trail had been completed at Parnka Point in Coorong National Park and others were being constructed.
