Rosetta
Rosetta is a town in Lower Egypt.
Understand
Founded around in the 9th century, Rosetta boomed with the decline of Alexandria following the Ottoman conquest of Egypt in 1517, only to wane in importance after Alexandria's revival. During the 19th century, it was a popular British tourist destination, known for its Ottoman mansions, citrus groves and relative cleanliness. The Rosetta Stone was discovered here in 1799.

- 🌍 Fort Julien (طابية رشيد). Built by the Ottoman Empire and occupied by the French during Napoleon Bonaparte's campaign in Egypt and Syria between 1798 and 1801. The fort became famous as the place where the Rosetta Stone was found in 1799.
- 🌍 Abou Mandour Mosque. Located along the river, this mosque was built in 1897.
- 🌍 Zaghloul Mosque (مسجد زغلول). The oldest mosque in the city, dating back to 1517.
- 🌍 St. Mark Church.
- 🌍 Amasyali House (منزل الأمصيلي). Historical house built in 1808.
