Roth is a town of some 26,000 people (2018) in Middle Franconia. It is at the northern edge of the Franconian Lake District, and can serve as an entry-point into the region. One of its main claims to fame is the "Challenge Roth" Triathlon held every year.

  • Challenge Roth. A triathlon including the full marathon distance (42,195 m (138,435 ft)) of running, 180.2 km (112.0 mi) of cycling and 3.6 km (2.2 mi) of swimming. Finishing is a major feat by itself. Winning takes world class athleticism, endurance and fastness. The name "Challenge Roth" was first used in 2002 but the event goes back to 1984 and has been held under various names due to sponsorship reasons and conflicts between the local event and the "Ironman" brand under which the triathlon used to be run.
  • Rothsee Triathlon. The "smaller sibling" of the Challenge Roth, with "only" 42 km (26 mi) of cycling, 10 km (6.2 mi) of walking and 1.5 km (0.93 mi) of swimming
