São Francisco do Sul

São Francisco do Sul is the oldest city in Santa Catarina and the third oldest in Brazil. Situated on the island of São Francisco, it lies just west of Joinville and 200km north of Florinopolis.

See

  • Centro. The historic centre of the town offers an excellent demonstration of Portuguese architecture, preserved by Brazil’s heritage trust.
  • Museu Nacional do Mar. Tells the history of Brazilian navigation through replica model ships, included is a replica of the ship in which the navigator Amyr Klink sailed across the Atlantic from Africa.
