Secunda

Secunda (from Latin: second, secund, secundi meaning second/following) is a town built amidst the coalfields of the Mpumalanga province of South Africa. It was named for being the second Sasol extraction refinery producing oil from coal, after Sasolburg, some 140 kilometres (87 mi) to the west.

Climate

During the summer, Secunda has a very pleasant climate with an average temperature of 26.5 °C. During the winter, the nights are cold, and frost regularly occurs, whereas temperatures can go as low as -10'C at low lying areas in extreme cases. The days are dry, sunny and warm with an average day temperature of 16.2 °C.

Secunda is 130 km east of Johannesburg on Highway N17.

One bus leaves Park City Transit Centre, 96 Rissik St, Johannesburg, daily at 8AM and arrives at Secunda at 10:30AM (R300 per person). One bus leaves Durban Station 4 Jelf Taylor Cres, Durban, daily at 7:15AM and arrives at Secunda at 5:30PM (R670 per person).
