  • 🌍 Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve β€” One of Gauteng’s most frequented ecotourism destinations is a short distance from Johannesburg, near the historical town of Heidelberg. It hosts a representative sample of the fauna and flora of the rocky Highveld grassland biome. With 134 kmΒ² (52 sq mi) of unspoiled natural environment and a mountain range characterised by meandering twists and turns of hiking trails, the reserve offers a refreshing break from the bustling city life. Here, the altitude varies between 1,545 and 1,917 m above sea level.

  • 🌍 Vaal Dam. Vaal Dam lies on the Vaal River, which is one of South Africa's strongest-flowing rivers. It has over 800 km (500 mi) of shoreline and is South Africa's second biggest dam by area and the fourth largest by volume. Its wall height is over 63 m. The Vaal Dam is a world renowned fishing venue for freshwater carp and catfish. Its shores are filled with anglers throughout the year. It also hosts yacht races through the year.
