Soraba

Soraba is a city of 200,000 people (2011) in Shimoga (district).

Understand

It is a panchayath town that is 102 km from Shimoga city.

The main livelihood of the people is agriculture. Rice paddy is the main crop, and also grown are nuts, ginger, corn and bananas.

Get around

Soraba's main road, Ratha Beedhi, stretches for approximately a kilometre and has its main shops and hospitals.

  • 🌍 Gudavi Bird Sanctuary, on the Banavasi Road, 16 km from Sorab town. It is spread over an area of 0.74 km². In 2009, 217 different species of birds belonging to 48 families were found at this place. A natural lake and the trees gives shelter to these birds. It is a small seasonal lake and is filled with water mostly in the rainy season. Various avian species migrate from around the globe in different seasons for breeding. A platform is built for bird watchers to have a closer look at the birds.
