The closest airports are Klagenfurt (KLU IATA, 80 km away, which had very few flights), and Salzburg (SZB IATA, 160 km away).

By bus

The main bus station in Spittal is next to the train stations. There are connections to all directions, although on weekends there tend to be very few buses. For schedules see Fahrplan ÖBB und Busse.

By train

Spittal lies on the Tauernbahn, a railway which connects Salzburg and Villach (main railway hub in Southern Austria). Every fast train ("Intercity" and others) stops in Spittal, some go directly to Vienna or Vienna airport. The station is named "Spittal Millstättersee" for touristic purposes.

There are some daily international connections: EN (Euronight) to Zürich, Zagreb, Beograd ECs (Eurocity's) to Dortmund, Frankfurt (Main), Munich

Domestic trains leave to Lienz and Villach. Winklern is only served by bus. For schedules see Fahrplan ÖBB und Busse

By car

Spittal lies at the A10-Tauernautobahn. There are two exits: Spittal-Ost ("east") and Spittal-Nord / Millstättersee ("north"). There's a special 110 km/h - speed limit on the highway during the night hours.

Spittal is small enough for everything to be seen on foot.

See

  • 🌍 Porcia Castle. 16th-century Renaissance castle with a nice park
  • 🌍 Millstätter Lake. Semi-alpine lake some kilometers to the north.
  • Stadtpfarrkirche "Maria Verkündigung", Litzelhofenstraße 1 (a short walk from the center). The main church in town.
