Texola

Texola is a ghost town in the Great Plains Country of Oklahoma, situated at the Texas border as the westernmost settlement in Oklahoma.

Understand

A small agricultural community established in the early 1900s, Texola was a stop on the Choctaw, Oklahoma and Gulf Railroad (1902) and US Route 66 (1926) near the 100⁰W meridian which separates Texas from Oklahoma. The town grew from 361 people (in 1910) to 581 people at its peak (in 1930), then began a long, slow decline in the 1940s. By 2010, just three dozen people still remained.
