Viçosa

Viçosa is a university town in the Southern Minas Gerais.

The city is the birthplace of Artur da Silva Bernardes, president of Brazil between November 15, 1922 and November 15, 1926.

It is a city essentially oriented to education, with emphasis on the Federal University of Viçosa, founded in 1926 by the president of the Republic Arthur da Silva Bernardes. The university is considered one of the best in Brazil. The town also possesses other private higher education institutions, emphasizing the educational character of the city.

It is a city that attracts many people from Brazil and other countries due to scientific and academic events that take place around the university, totaling approximately 500 annual events.

Its inhabitants are mostly made up of young people, which gives the city its own dynamic, in addition to the large number of parties that take place during the week.

Its population as of 2020 was estimated at 79,000 and the elevation is 648 m.
