Wadden Sea

The Wadden Sea is an intertidal zone in the southeastern part of the North Sea. It is a shallow body of water with tidal flats and wetlands between the mainlands of the Netherlands, Germany, and Denmark, and the Frisian Islands. Since 2009, the Wadden Sea is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. There are seven national parks in the Wadden Sea region. Below is a list of these national parks and the main regions and islands surrounding the Wadden Sea.

Netherlands

West Frisian Islands — the Dutch Wadden islands, of which five are inhabited.
- Schiermonnikoog National Park
- Dunes of Texel National Park
Province of Friesland — western part of the Dutch mainland Wadden Sea coast.
Province Groningen — eastern part of the Dutch mainland Wadden Sea coast.
- Lauwersmeer National Park

Germany

State of Lower Saxony
- Lower Saxon Wadden Sea National Park
- East Frisian Islands — including seven inhabited islands.
State of Hamburg
- Hamburg Wadden Sea National Park — including the tiny island of Neuwerk.
State of Schleswig-Holstein
- Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park
- North Frisian Islands

Denmark

Region of Southern Denmark (South Jutland)
