Kanchrapara and Naihati are the two towns along the Hooghly River, in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.

By train

  • 🌍 Kanchrapara railway station, Station Rd. From Sealdah station (Eastern Railways), Main Section, many EMU, MEMU, passenger trains are available. Almost all the trains stop at Kanchrapara. The trip takes around 1 hour 10 minutes. Other routes connect to it through the Sealdah north section. Some general trains which stop at Kanchrapara Railway Station are: Sealdah-Gede local, Sealdah-Kalyani/Kalyani Simanta Local, Sealdah-Ranaghat Local, Sealdah-Krishnanagar Local, Sealdah-Shantipur Local, and Lalgola Fast Passenger.
  • 🌍 Naihati Junction railway station.

By car

Kanchrapara can be reached by Kalyani Expressway, which directly connects Kolkata with cities like Hooghly, Kalyani and Naihati.

For travelling within Kanchrapara, or in its vicinity, you can opt for public buses, auto-rickshaws, electric rickshaws (locally totos) or cycle rickshaws.

  • 🌍 Air Force Station Kanchrapara. A historic airfield, used during World War II by British and American fighter jets. This area presently is used by Indian Air Force for special purposes.
  • Boroma Kali Temple. The most noteworthy religious spot in the town. Every year thousands of devotees from various places in West Bengal flock to the city during Kali Puja.
  • 🌍 Jubilee Bridge. A former rail bridge over the Hooghly River between Hooghly and Naihati. The bridge was opened on 16 February 1885 in the golden jubilee year of the reign of Queen Victoria. The bridge served the people for 129 years, and several generations used the service to cross the River Hooghly. The bridge is the first permanent crossing over the Hooghly, which had been considered unbridgeable owing to difficult foundation conditions at that time.
  • 🌍 Kanchrapara Railway Workshop. One of the major workshops of Indian Railways. The workshop is open for public in the occassion of Vishwakarma Puja every year.
  • Krishna-Raya Temple.
  • 🌍 Nandakishore Temple. An at-chala temple with terracotta reliefs.
  • 🌍 Rishi Bankim Chandra's Residence and Museum.
  • 🌍 Sampreeti Setu (New Jubilee Bridge). The first continuous truss bridge in India. It connects Hooghly and Naihati and replaces the aged Jubilee bridge in 2016.

Eat and drink

Kanchrapara and Naihati have many restaurants which offers a variety of cuisines. This towns are also home to many soda shops which sell sodas in recyclable containers for ₹5-10 per 100mL/200mL container every summer. Natural fruit juices are also made and served at the same prices. Branded packed soft-drinks and fruit-drinks are also available at various shops.
